Two small configuration changes I'd like to make

There are two things (in the meantime) that I would like to change in my v9.3. I am using kde.

1) When I, as normal user, shut the system down, I am required to authenticate myself with ID/PW. This seems over the top to me, especially in view of the fact that I am not asked to do so when I start SUSE up. Surely there is a way to eliminate this small annoyance. What is it?

2) When I start the system up, the desktop is populated with whatever I was doing before I shut it down previously. I would prefer starting each session anew, and can't believe there is not way to configure the desktop for this. I have searched Control Center > Desktop for clues, but have found none. Where is this adjustment hidden?

TIA...

I am not sure but I think it is:

Start YaST. Click on Security and Users -> Next -> Next -> Shutdown Behavior of KDM -> automatic

Start kcontrol (control center). Click on KDEComponents -> Session Manager -> Start with an empty session.
