SUSE v10.0 ?= OpenSUSE v10.0


I've read that SUSE v10.0 exists and so does OpenSUSE v10.0.

Do these two differ ?

Personally, I don't think that a sticky will help (in a long term perspective), because SUSE changes the names and composition quite often. However, this thread would be a candidate:

That mailinglist entry describes SUSE 10.1-layout, not Suse 10.

I would recommend you to wait for a month and then get the new version (10.1).

Suse10 on the other hand was released with these versions:

Retail (100 euros?) - Double-layer DVD, 5 cds, 2 manuals, official support from Novell

Suse10 Eval (FREE) - Single-layer DVD or 5 cds, missing some commercial packages and some other things, because single-layer can not hold as much data as the double-layer one.
THIS IS THE ONE I RECOMMEND!

OpenSuse /Suse10-OSS(FREE) - 5cds, It has all basic linux packages you need, but it is missing every closed source and third-party software.
Things missing: acrobat reader, flash,java, mp3-support, dvd-support...

Everything can be downloaded from opensuse servers.
So if you use this, prepare yourself for some serious downloading...

i would like to know how to find out the date of the next release of suse

in other words how did you know

i know it is a silly question but i have been trying for a while but i didn't succeed

Even if Novell were not to announce a ship date, SuSE has been on a very predictable six-month release cycle for quite some time now.

That is not a silly question. What is a silly question is "do SuSE 10.0 and OpenSuSE 10.0 differ?" because:

a. the question has been asked and answered MANY times on this messageboard already
b. OpenSuSE's documentation outlines the differences
c. OpenSuSE's web site outlines the differences
d. Novell's SuSE pages outline the differences

However, the release schedule? How does one find it? Not a silly question.

Right, but it does NOT have the release date for 10.1, which is what AGazzaz asked about. Not a beta, not a release candidate - one can infer from the post he was asking about the final release.

The release date is in no way evident based on the roadmap. However it is well-known that Novell is trying to maintain the six-month release cycle that SuSE has been known for.

My bad, I guess I kinda jumped the gun, the roadmap changes regularly, a few times in the last week, actually. Beyond that though, there are multiple road maps, some from novell, some on opensuse, and others are reports from the industry in general. All thoughts are up until a few days ago the release of 10.1 final would have been roughly March 2. It looks like that has been pushed back with the addition of one more beta(5) which means unlike the release of 10.0, they won't rush it this time, they will wait until it is ready. So possibly now mid march.

Just to clarify I DONT KNOW the release date, but as said before Suse has 6-month release cycle.

Secondly some forums/other sites have information about suse releasing 10.1. in March.

Roadmap gives us some hints, but no exact date, because its "released when its done" .
Feb 23, 2006 is the date for FIRST RC. Probably we will see also atleast RC2 or maybe RC3.

What I have read in the Factory news, beta4 isn't even fully freezed yet. My guess is that the magic date could be sometime in late march.

actually i know all about suse and open suse but what happened with mandriva is after 2 weeks i found the new version so i don't want the same to happen again so i searched and i found lots of post about the difference but not even one about the date of the new release
