SuSE 9.3 installation with a few wrong md5 packages

Hi

I'm trying to install SuSE 9.3 Professional on the same PC where I could successfully install SuSE 9.1 Professional.

During the installation, the system starts installing the packages from the DVD (same behavior using CD). At the end of the installation 3 or 4 packages get not installed because of a wrong md5 checksum <---md5-----> != <---md5----->.

I have checked the DVD for errors with YAST and it seems to be OK.

I have also tried to install with "Install without ACPI" or with "Safe install", but in every case there are a few packages (not always the same ones) that have a wrong md5 checksum.

Sometime they are unimportant packages, but something is the kde desktop_data that fails.
After trying a few times I could have failures only on unimportant packages that at the end I have removed and reinstalled those packages with YAST.

Can I be sure in this case that packages installed without md5 errors are correctly installed and not corrupted?

My PC has an hard disk and a DVD-burner connected through a Promise IDE host controller:
HD Maxtor 60GB /dev/hde
DVD-RW NEC D-1300A /dev/hdg

With the same hardware I could install succesfully from DVD SuSE 9.1 Professional.

Any idea about this?

Thanks for your hints
Enrico

Could it be that there is a wrong dma mode set? I would assume problems in data transfer, especially as further attempts lead to a successful installation. Do you see error messages in the log-files (/var/log/warn and /var/log/messages or dmesg)?

I think you are safe if the packages install without complaining.
