SUSE 9.2 Live/USB ports?

Hello all, newbie linux user warning!

I figured I would dive right in and take a look at what Linux was all about and downloaded some LiveCDs. SimplyMEPIS, Knoppix 3.6, and SUSE 9.2 Live. Knoppix is awesome and I liked what I was seeing from Suse until it loaded. I was not able to use my mouse or keyboard which are both utilizing USB ports. Knowing that I am a newbie to all this, how does one correct this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You may get a clearer answer if you post your exact hardware specs in question.

My apologies, it was early morning when I posted my original question. Here are my system specs:

Compaq Presario 5423US Desktop PC
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor - 1600 MHz (1.6 GHz)
Windows XP Pro

Keyboard is Compaq and I use a Microsoft Optical Trackball.

If anyone needs any more particulars, please ask as I was not completely sure what information might be needed. Thanks again.
