I am having trouble with a fresh FTP install, in that I am unable to create and use partitions using the Reiser or ext3 file systems.

The partitions are created, but then I get the message:

Could not mount /dev/hdax to /mnt/
You can continue if you know what you're doing, but, to prevent damage to your filesystems, it is safer to cancel and reboot.

I've tried creating various partitioning schemes, but the / partition always fails to mount.

The only way I could get the install to work was to use the ext2 filesystem.

Any ideas?

Did you run 'Manual Installation'? Then you may forgot to load the reiserfs driver before starting the installation. This might be also an option if it doesn't work the automatic way: enter 'Manual Installation' and load the required drivers manually.
