can you get a successful media check?

if yes then try the noahcpi option (somone please confirm the spelling of the option for me)

I think its normally 'noacpi' but with the suse F1 help menu says to use:
Quote:
acpi=off
I would also add
Quote:
splash=silent
So for boot options do this:
Code:
acpi=off splash=silent

One more thing. Also at the boot menu, press 'F3' and try selecting the 'VESA' video mode. VESA will work on just about anything.

Unhappy Having similar problems with SUSE 11.0

I maintain an Acer laptop with an Athlon 64 bit processor. I have been running Mandriva 2005 for years without problems, but I maintain a second boot partition in hopes of upgrading someday. After 3.5 years and many, many attempts I am still relying on Mandriva 2005.

My last attempt was a load of SUSE 11.0. I got it working but could not get my wireless card (a broadcom) working. I really liked the suspend-to-memory feature and would use it when I was on wired networks, which is most of the time.

BUT, after about a week, after a reboot, the system would not come up. It gets to the end of the setup and fails while trying to set up X11, something about an MTRR failure writing to memory.

After that I tried Mandriva 2009, but this had no suspend feature so I reloaded SUSE. This morning I had the same problem. I will try rebooting with ACPI off eventually, but for now I am happy back on Mandriva 2005.
