Suse 10.1 doesn't boot after BIOS upgrade

Hope someone can help.

I've just done a BIOS upgrade to my ASUS M2NSLi based system which runs a dual boot with Suse 10.1 and XP Pro and now Suse's not playing! Grub still works and I can boot Linux using the failsafe option, but with the standard option there's nothing - no sign of any disk activity.

The system is configured with 3 HDDs - XP is on one and Suse is installed on a software RAID on the other two. Windows Admin says all the disk partitions are healthy and, as I'm still a Linux novice, I'm baffled by this one.

Any clues out there?

Thanks

If you didn't clear the CMOS after flashing the BIOS, this should be done. Your manual will have instructions on how to do it. This will assure that there are no conflicts with the previous BIOS.

Also, check to assure that RAID is enabled in the BIOS.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions, but no luck. It seems to be something to do with the boot process. The disks all physically check out and after logging in using the Failsafe mode, the Startx command will boot the GUI and everything looks good. It just doesn't like doing anything through the other Grub menu item.

Two things I've just observed - when booting failsafe, there's one process that comes up as 'failed' that's to do with loading the swap file in /etc/fstab. Here's the content:

/dev/md1 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/sdb1 /boot reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 2
/dev/md2 /home reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 2
/dev/sda1 /windows/C ntfs ro,users,gid=users,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0
/dev/sda5 /windows/D ntfs ro,users,gid=users,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0
/dev/md0 swap swap defaults 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs noauto 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto noauto,user,sync 0 0

The other is that I tried running the install CD again and that won't go past the initial menu either!!

Is there something in the Grub loader I should examine?
