Sound Driver intel8x0 hangs on startup, can only boot from cd.

When Suse 9.2 boots up, my system hangs on Starting sound driver: intel8x0. I dont have alsasound installed, and the only way for me to get into linux is via the Installation - ACPI Disabled on the cd. If I turn ACPI off in the boot options when booting from hard disk, it still hangs. Same if I turn apic off. Some help, please

Using the install disk, you should be able to remove the sound driver from the startup sequence.

how would I do that, and would that mean I would lose my sound because i dont want that to happen?

UPDATE:
I fixed it by upgrading and downgrading the kernel.

It seems like the first reboot after a new kernel install it wil boot up fine, but after that it still hangs. It also effects myy boot in other ways, when the sound driver doesnt start up my netgear wg121 doesnt start up etc so i think its more than just removing the sound driver. I dunno why this happened but can someone please help me.
