SMP Kernel for SuSE 9.3?

I have just installed SuSE 9.3 on an older test machine, and I am IMPRESSED. This is a very nice distro, and almost everything "just works", which is great, after struggling to get other distros to recognize hardware and so on.

I am seriously considering replacing my the environment on my day-to-day working computer with SuSE 9.3. My main computer has a Pentium IV with HT - this can take advantage of an SMP kernel, since the Pentium IV with HT enabled looks like two CPUs. Its current Mandrake 10.1 has an SMP kernel, and there was a *noticeable* performance improvement when I installed it instead of the standard non SMP kernel. I am hoping for the same "kick" to SuSE, as my one complaint is that it is a bit slow to boot and run.

Does SuSE 9.3 have an SMP kernel? Where may I get it? I have checked via YaST's available packages list, and via its YOU online update, but there doesn't seem to be an SMP kernel. Thanks!

Yes SUSE 9.3 pro supports an SMP kernel. You won’t have to do anything to use it, it will detect it and install it by default. However be forewarned hyper threading and SMP kernels will cause problems with Hibernation/Pwr Management. I had to uninstall the SMP kernel and replace it with the default kernel to circumvent this. Since my machine is a laptop I’ll gladly take a performance hit for the convenience of hibernation.
