Since Switching To 9.3 I've Got Nothing But Problems
Greetings all:
I have been running Linux on my machine(DELL Inspiron 700m) for about 2 months now, and everything was running GREAT in SuSE 9.2 Pro, but once I upgraded to 9.3 I got screwed. First of all, I can no longer sync my palm (Tungsten C), which leaves me with no use for it, which is just great. Then the other day after trying to fix my video settings, I could no longer log into my username. The kInternet tool also sucks a big one. When ever I boot up my machine I have to reconfigure everything in YAST before I can get online, which is REALLY annoying. I am sorry for the rant, but this has been really irritating me for days and if it wasn't for my final due on Saturday morning, I would have started saving my data to disks and then just reinstall 9.2. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions before I take the drastic step in reformatting my HD and going back to 9.2Pro? Thanks in advance.
PS. It would be appreciated that in your replies you take into concern I am still pretty much a Linux newbie, so I may not understand everything.
i don't trust in upgrade. it is better if you try a new install.
1.- Did you make a partition for /home? If you did, you shouldn't be scarred for loosing information. If didn't, you should. Try making one with the partiotion utility from Yast
2.- I have same problem wioth my clie. I hope Novell will give us soon a patch for this.
I've been on 9.3 since it shipped and I upgraded from 9.2. I saved my data on a CD and did a new install after trying an upgrade that acted strangely. As to Palms, the only package I have consistent success with is Jpilot. Before installing jpilot, uninstall kpilot and the kdepim. They are no longer needed and kpilot and jpilot in the same box always has problems. You will need to change permissions on the usb ports. My SuSE 9.2 and 9.3 both used /dev/usb/ttyUSB1. All works well for me. Good Luck
Distribution: Kubuntu, Ubuntu server, SuSE 11, Knoppix, Puppy, Myth. Oh alright then, all of them

Just upgraded from 9.2 to 9.3 on two computers with only one unforseen problem.
I had to reinstall the Nvidia drivers as expected and rerun my VMWare config, but they were expected.
Only problem was SuperKaramba weather disappearing but I can live with that.
The only time I've done a new install was with 9.0 on my new machine, 8.1 on my older machine and the odd VMWare guest system.
Otherwise its just been back up the data and update.
I think a lot of problems with updates is that some people dont keep data tidy.
My /home and /srv are in their own partitions as well as several large partitions for VMWare machines.
If you've installed lots of odd programs from outside the Suse packages you're probably going to have problems doing an update and would be wise to uninstall and then reinstall after updating.
I am on the "do not upgrade, reinstall" bandwagon. by no means an expert in Linux but like you little on my Dell Dimansion 4600c works and a clean install to a clone (500MHz P3) works like a CHAMP! I plan to reinstall my 4600c this weekend once I have backed up my 48GB of data .. err... mp3's.
