Unhappy Serious problem after SUSE update...

Hi Guys,

I'm, in need of some urgent advice. I've just had to re-install Suse 9.1 pro, not because of a problem with SUSE but my windows partition was fubar and it seemed easier to re-install from scratch rather than try and persuade windows to install again without wiping linux out. Anyway...

This was working fine for a few days then I realised my Suse installation was way out of date so went to do updates thorugh YAST. Took ages but all the updates seemed to go fine, no error messages recieved. Until I rebooted....

Whatching the boot messages shows that alll is good until it gets to "Starting kdm" at which point the screen goes black and I can get no further.

Could this have something to do with gettign Yast to download and install the NVIDIA drivers?

Any advice would be most welcome as I really don't want to have to re-install everything agin!

Mike

Ctrl Alt F3 will get you to a textual login screen. Log in, su to root and edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config file (it might be called XF86Config-4 - I can't remember). Find the line that says Driver "nvidia" and change "nvidia" to "nv". Save, exit, logout (Ctrl D) then Ctrl Alt F7 to get back to the usual screen and Ctrl Alt Backspace to restart the X-server.

Hope that helps.
