I an interested in download the openSuse 10.2 but on the site, it is lacking some info. I have 10.0 on 5 CD-R and I know it requires lots of space. I think that even one CD was filled to it's maximum : 703MB
The final CD wasn't so full. Why not balance the files to fit on 650MB CD?
I have some CD-RW 650 MB that I prefer to use. Is it possible with 10.2 or it's the same issue?
What about installing using the .iso from the hard drive?
Well, it appears that this holds true for the 10.2 release as well, looking over the 5 iso images offered from the OpenSuSE website. I don't know if 650 MB is going to be enough for some of the discs in the set. I don't know what your hardware setup is, but you may have an easier time if you download the DVD iso. Again, this depends on your setup. I've found it much less of a hassle to insert one disc from start to finish, rather than having to swap discs every so often. As far as mounting the iso images from the hard drive, typically this is done using the loop device, but this is something that the intricacies of escape my knowledge.
Thanks for the reply.
I really hate that about all Linux distros because standard CD-ROM size is 650 MB as far as I know. I've only seen HL2 CDs going over the limit with their CD-ROM
I've never seen a 700MB CD-RW
I'm trying to download the DVD image, 3.6GB. Just too big but anyway we'll see if it works.
There are 700 MB CD-RWs out there. I actually own a few, but very rarely make use of them. The only times that I really use them are for system recovery discs that get updated every so often. It may take a while, depending on your network connection, to retrieve the DVD image. You may want to choose, if you haven't already, a mirror that has a minimal amount of traffic. Also, you may want to download with some sort of resume feature enabled. Going back to when I downloaded large files via dial-up, it was very frustrating to reach the 90 percentile range, only to be disconnected and having to start all over
