omg suse fix that yast!
One of reasons i love suse is the yast control center which is marvelous. But from versions 10.x i always have some kind of problems with yast. At 10.2 version when i click on software management button the window opens and after parsing some files i receive the message initializing and unfortunately never proceeds to next step
I want to be able to install and remove packages using my suse. and plz dont tell me install smart or anything else. I kust want to be able to use the distro with the default preselections. If i have had to install 3rd party software then i dont find any reason to use suse for yast anymore.
Plz help me fix my yast

Are you having problems with YaST2 online_update, or with zmd?

You might want to take a look at which repositories you are using. Maybe you can eliminate redundant ones if they exist, or try a different one. Also look in the logs and see if there is a message that give a hint on the problem. Are you using broadband or dialup? Some of the catalog files that YaST reads from the repo can be very large. Maybe you are not waiting long enough. That part can take a very long time.
You might also want to run "rpm -qvV <package-name>" against YaST2 related packages and see if any files are missing or corrupt.

Did YaST work before you removed Zen? Did you remove Zen using YaST?

The command "rpm -qV yast2" will examine the files and tell you if any of them are corrupted, missing or if the permissions are changed. The command "rpm -qvV yast2" will examine the files and print out information on every file including good ones.
Sometimes the database can become corrupt. You can try using the --rebuilddb option of rpm to rebuild the rpm database.
Yast2 stores a number of logs in /var/log/yast2/.

The command you used was OK. It didn't return anything because the files weren't corrupt. The capital V is for Verify. The small v is for verbose.
Try running "sudo yast2 inst_source" and refresh your installation sources.
Then launch "sudo sw_single" and see it you perform an update.
