No webcam on 10.1

I cannot use either of 2 webcams on suse 10.1.
Modules are loaded for both webcams but neither will work with amsn, they are not being detected. Both sort of work with kopete but I get the old green screen problem.

Both webcams worked perfectly with both amsn and kopete on suse 10.0 and work with both kopete and amsn on ubuntu dapper and kanotix/debian sid.

It seems every day I'm finding a new problem on 10.1. It took a lot of work to get my eciadsl modem working properly and even now it's hit and miss whether it decides to connect or not. This is something else that worked perfectly in 10.0.
If I hadn't burned 10.1 over my 10.0 cd's I would have already gone back to 10.0 by now.
