No sound for most things after recent update & Warp speed for video and audio.

Greetings, all!

I have recently installed 11.3 onto a computer I just dropped a new mobo/cpu/memory into. At first everything worked great! (minus a few video streaming issues...but that is for a later date) Then, a few days ago, I let it do an update. Boy to I feel stupid now. I guess if it ain't broke..... So, now I don't have sound in the browsers or for the video players...such as xine. I do however still have sound with Amarok and system sounds when it boots up.

I have deleted the sound device in Yast and let it re-install several times. I tried different setting there as well. Checked and rechecked then checked again the mixer settings. Made sure my group settings included audio...just in case. Now Amarok and the online video play at warp speed, and only Amarok gives me sound....garbled...but sound. The system keeps telling me when I reboot that "one or more sound devices were removed" and wants to know if I want it to ignore them from now on. I've answered yes and no several times.I've also tried updated the alsa drivers in the software management of Yast. Can someone please help me before my wife gets mad at me for converting this computer to Linux?

Here is some information that may help.

Absolute path to 'lspci' is '/sbin/lspci', so running it may require superuser privileges (eg. root).

****UPDATE:***** The "Warp Speed" for the video and audio was resolved after removing and then re-installing the audio driver and a quick reboot. But for some reason I had to reboot yet again to get the internet connection working again. This has happened to me a couple of times now. Also, when I try to adjust the Pulseaudio config under "other"in the audio config of Yast,it says it is not installed. When I try to install, it has a conflict with another program.

Problem solved!!!! I simply downloaded a copy of Ubuntu 10.10. I installed it and wango-bango! I have everything. Not only that, but everything just works better! The audio works on everything. I can stream my video from my network drive more smoothly than either Microsoft or Opensuse ever could. I updated my Nvidia driver without hardly thinking about it. Oh, it was different mounting the net drive, but then it was quicker and easier to access than Opensuse 11.3. I can't say I like the desktop appearance, but I'm sure I'll come to love it. I haven't been so excited by a Linux distro since I first tried it. I have been with Suse since I bought my first copy of Suse Pro 9. (Nice books though. I still treasure them.) Now, after all these years I finally found the solution to all my problems I've had with Novell products. I simply switched to Ubuntu. The fire has diminished sinch I first joined this forum for Suse. It is as obvious as a huge zit on a beautiful face when you have stepped away as I had and came back after a few years. I am sad to see it, but it is true. I always loved all the options Suse provided, but considering all the issues I've had over the years, it might be wise for them to concentrate of making their distro more stable than it has ever been thus far. Well, I have my media computer and am able to finally after all these years be able to tell Microsoft to kiss off once and for all at lest for this one application. Had I known it was as easy as switching distros, I'd have done it years ago. Now, if I can just get Ubuntu to change their name.....maybe I can start a trend to call it "The U", or "The UB"? (In the spirit of idiots wanting to call Orange county the "OC". Bah!)

So, goodbye Suse, and helloooo, U! Hmmmm...I like it better already!
