ndiswrapper in 64bit

hey guys. i need to install ndiswrapper so i can install the drivers for my broadcom integ. wifi thats in my hp pavilion. it's 802.11g. i can't rem the specific numbers of the model or what not. i'm in xp right now, so if u tell me how to find the specifics, i'll get it to ya. anyways. if i can't install ndiswrapper, then i can't install drivers. is there another way around it? again, ndiswrapper gives me errors saying something about 64bit stuff. thanks

Same problem here

I have the same extact configuration. Did not find a solution yet and was wondering if you figured out a way to solve this problem. The ndiswrapper is a 32bit module, so it will not compile in the 64bit architecture. And it will not load as a module in the 64bit either because it is closely linked to the kernel.

As far as I know, you need a 64bit module to run on the 64bit kernel. I started thinking if there was yet another "wrapper" to solve this problem, but could not find anything.

Now I'm thinking about getting a PCMCIA card that is compatible with the 64bit but still not sure which one to get.

no, i haven't found any solution. i was waiting for a reply, but i guess since you've done the research, i'm stuck without wifi. this really sucks. is there another way around this besides the wrapper? are there any experimental drivers for broadcom the way there is for dlink?

I was searching around just last month and decided to checkout driverloader and ndiswrapper. I found out that driverloader has 64-bit support:

http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/

i haven't checked out ndiswrapper yet.

Are you guys using the ndiswrapper that comes on the DVD?

I believe there is a 64 bit version as every mirror site I go to has an ndiswrapper rpm in the 64 bit directories.

i have recently installed suse 9.2 64bit, and it has ndiswrapper in it...but how do i use it? before i found that out, though, i was in the process of trying to install the trial version or driverloader, but it keeps asking for the kernel stuff, like the source or something like that. It keeps complaining that it can't find autoconf.h or something similar. I will reboot into suse and post a reply again if i'm wrong about the message, and possibly post eerything else it says.

thnx

No pre-built modules for: SuSE-9.2 linux-2.6.8-24.11-default x86_64

Trying to automatically build the driver modules...
(this requires a C compiler and proper kernel sources to be installed)
Please ensure that the kernel-headers or kernel-source package is installed.

^GWARNING: missing file /usr/src/linux/include/linux/autoconf.h
The cause of this is usually a missing or unconfigured
kernel source tree (and sometimes an incorrect directory or symbolic link).

First, ensure that the proper kernel source and compiler packages
from your distribution vendor and/or the community are installed.

The Linux kernel can then be reconfigured by running "make menuconfig"
under the kernel source directory (usually /usr/src/linux).

Verify that the proper options for your system are selected.

Then compile and install your new kernel (for more information about
this procedure, see the README file under the kernel source directory),
reboot the system using the new kernel, and re-run "dldrconfig".

this is the startup log. how do i fix this?

i just recently install suse 9.2 over the weekend and i to had various problems with the ndiswrapper that came with suse packages.

here are the steps on how i was able to install it successfully in my compaq r3240us system.
1.) download the latest ndiswrapper at http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ease_id=310366
2.) download the winxp 64bit driver for braodcom (make sure it is 64bit there is a generic driver just search google for it.
3.) extract the content of the ndiswrapper (anywhere you want)
4.) copy the .inf and the .sys file from the 64bit driver to a folder within ndiswrapper (easier to navigate)
5.)open up yast
6.)open up install and remove software
7.)under search type gcc and install it, do the same for the kernel source, and make
8.)open up a terminal and login as root (su)
9.) browse to the directory where you extracted ndiswrapper and perform these commands
10.) make
11.) make install
12.) ndiswrapper -i "patch to the inf file from step 4"
13.) modprobe ndiswrapper
14.) iwlist wlan0 scan (check to see if it sees your SSID from your wireless)
15.) iwconfig wlan0 essid "the name of your ssid" without the quote
16.) iwconfig wlan0 key restricted "your wep key" without the quote (only if your using one)
17.) dhcpcd wlan0

check if you can browse now, if you can run this additional command ndiswrapper -m as root

make note that when you reboot you will have to do this again. to avoid this go to your /etc/r.d/boot.local and add those commands. so that on boot it will run those commands for you.

this was the only way i was able to run my wireless if anyone has a quicker way please let me know.
