Mplayer font error

Hi

Mplayer gives me this annoying error. I'm not sure what to do about it.
Here is the error message:
Error!
New_Face failed. Maybe the font path is wrong. Please supply the text font file (~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf).

I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me what is going on and how to resolve this seemingly silly issue.

I should add that I tried searching for sunfont.ttf on beagle and there were no results.

Thanks in advance.

Mplayer wants a font for displaying on-screen information (when you press the 'o' key repeatedly, for example), and it can't find one. You simply need to copy your favorite TrueType font to ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf - for example:

cp /usr/share/fonts/default/TrueType/arial.ttf ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf

You can find the TrueType fonts on your system with:

locate .ttf

macemoneta,

is there a way to set that globally, instead of in the user's .mplayer/ directory?

Yes, if you want to set it globally, in the file /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf add a line, for example:

Code:
font=/etc/mplayer/subfont.ttf
Then copy the font you want to use to that location, for example:

Code:
cp /usr/share/fonts/msttcorefonts/verdana.ttf /etc/mplayer/subfont.ttf
