Mind of its own

After Suse is installed , I noticed some things aren't included with the CD or installation , a good example is reading a book about adding software on Linux then I try to copy the same instructions out of the book and nothing is in the same place as the book ... I have spent a week downloading Live CDS from different Distributions . any solutions?

Although there more than one way to install software in linux the easiest way do is to use the Package manager or Synaptic
In opensuse one option is yast>software>Package Groups
A other way in opensuse is directly using the option Install Software
The third option in opensuse is from the command line using the command zypper install package name
In every distro installing software you need to have root privilege
