madwifi issues

I am using SuSe 9.3 on my laptop and have run into problem after problem setting up my wireless adapter, which is a netgear WG511T. I imagine that when I installed suse it came with a madwifi package since I see ath in dmesg. Anyway, i am able to configure my card, but when I try to connect (either via yast or iwconfig ath0 up) X locks up. I have take out the battery.

I found a tutorial on how to fix the lockup problem, but it requires rebuilding madwifi (i cant find the orginal madwifi version to uninstall throgh yast). Plus I tried building madwifi and I get the error:
Quote:
Makefile.inc:122: *** KERNELCONF: /lib/modules/2.6.11.4-20a-default/build/.config does not exist.. Stop.
Please help, I'm going nuts.

hello there mate. No worries. I can't help with anything else but I can solve that error message for you. First we need to know whether you need a configured kernel source or just a link in /lib/modules/2.6.11.4-20a-default/
So lets "cd /lib/modules/2.6.11.4-20a-default/build/" if that works then we have a kernel source and a link to it, if not then we need to "ls /usr/src/" to see if we have kernel source at all and post the output.
Tell me how it went.

I was able to cd to that dir. I tried ls /usr/src and the output was "linux-2.6.11.4-20a-obj packages"

EDIT: I got past that error, but now I get a new error that says "Only kernel version 2.4.x is supported"
