Lost hardware after security update

Used YAST to install various security udates for OSS 10.0; after Kernel update and reboot as advised I lost use of my modem, printer and cdrom drive, even though it appears that YAST still recognizes the printer and modem with the same settings. It appears that my system no longer recognizes /dev/lp0.

When I restarted the computer it appears that there is a failure to start /lib/modules. I attempted to use YAST in repair mode (when starting up) but as this version of OSS 10.0 is loaded on a USB device Yast will only attempt to repair SUSE 9.1 on the internal hard drive. Booting to the USB device is fine using Disk 1 of OSS 10.0.

This same thing has happened to me on my laptop. I have not yet gone to a thourough investigation, but it so far appears similar to you. Have you been able to fix the problems?

/lib/modules is a directory its not something that can start ... but maybe when loading modules your running into this ... can you post the actual message?

it sounds like your initrd got messed up though. does it boot at all to the usb drive?

Since I had only a small amount of time invested in solving this issue, and a lack of extensive files I decided to reinstall. That solved this problem.
