Please be patient with me, i'm having an "alzheimer's moment", so i really need a refresher answer:
My difficulty is that on one of the user accounts, i've managed to screw up the Task Bar on KDE 4.1 i've tried to adjust using the tools on the task bar without success.
This problem has cropped up a time or two before, and i solved it by deleting two configuration files and returning to default settings on the desktop. i have since forgotten both the file names, and their location. If somebody could refresh my memory on that, it would be greatly appreciated.
The file(s) you are looking for reside in /home/yourusername/.kde4/share/config. I can't remember if it's the plasmarc or the plasma-desktoprc (or even both) that holds the settings for the task bar. I would suggest you rename or make copies of those files before removing them.

Sorry, that didn't seem to work. All it really did was to change the appearance of the icons. All of the other Desktop settings, including both Taskbar and wallpaper remained the same. i ended up having to nuke the user account and rebuild it. Fortunately it was not this user account, so there were not any needed files stored there. The whole issue is still unsolved at this time.
i do recall another thread on this particular subject, but have not been able to find it with the search engine on this site.

I (incorrectly) assumed you had settings that you were trying to preserve. Otherwise I would have simply told you to delete your hidden .kde4 folder. When you log back in your desktop would have been reset to the default value.

Sorry that i didn't have a chance to get back to you Nexus. i'm working strange hours.
The issue i'm having is not so much an obscure user account that didn't have data. You're correct on that, i could and did just as easily nuke the account and rebuild.
The issue with the KDE4 task bar is one that has appeared time and time again on the computer i'm using...it has happened before with this user account. In the event that it happens (again!) to this user account, i'll have to solve the problem. It would cause a great deal of grief to locate and copy all needed files and settings, nuke my user account, and try and restore everything from the media i placed the files and settings on. That is why i inquired about which files should be removed.
Returning to point, neither of the files you suggested caused the settings of the KDE4 desktop to return to their default values. i removed them in all possible combinations, yet the only thing i was able to accomplish was to remove the choice of icon style.
