Internet connection not working

It worked just fine when I had my dual-boot system working, but after I reinstalled Linux, it won't work. During the first time that I reinstalled Linux, the power went out, which somehow killed off my BIOS. I am wondering if my network card has been affected, as well, though all systems are initially checking out, except when I actually try to access a webpage. I also played with a couple of jumpers trying to clear out the CMOS, but wasn't completely sure if they were the right ones, but everything else works right. This is what it said during the internet test:

Internet Connection Test Logs

eth0 device: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 74)

eth0 configuration: eth-id-00:0ae6:55:4d:c8
client is already running on eth0

Mozilla Firefox

Alert: www.novell.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

I am hooked up to a Comcast cable modem without a router. I have already been in touch with Comcast and everything looks good coming out of the modem.

I am a tad skeptical that this is a BIOS/CMOS level problem....

Not enough information to help you. First, run
Code:
ifconfig
and see if an appropriate IP has been issued to your eth0 card. Since you're behind a router (which I'm guessing is also a NAT device and DHCP server), it should be a private IP - most likely 192.168.x.x.

Second, run
Code:
cat /etc/resolv.conf
See your router's internal IP there? If so, you'll need to make some changes in YaST. Disable updating nameservers via DHCP. And then manually add your ISP's nameservers.

Third, if the first two points are satisfied and it's still not working you may need to add a default gateway (i.e. your router's internal IP).

I'm not sure what I did to do the trick, but somehow, it now works.
