It's all good. Just think about how many people you can help once you get this thing sorted out. How do you think I learned?

Hello Guys

In Device Manager- DVD/CD - shows both my Optorite DVD RW and my Samsumg DVD-rom. No problems detected there.

Did actually boot the system with the Windows CD in it. Use the Win200 CD to restore panel:
Check all files and rebooted.

Went back to Windows and tried again.. Same error:
"The disk in drive D: is not formated. Do you want to format it now?"

Thanks

Daniel

That problem is strange. I am guessing the drive mounts OK in Linux but does not work in Windows. The reason I think it is so strange is that optical devices don't typically have their own drivers. The correct interface is provided by BIOS and the operating system.

You might want to check out a board that is more hardware/Windows oriented like abxzone.com that has a Drives & Controllers forum to troubleshoot this one.

The PC is fixed now. I ended up reformating the drive and install Windows 2000 fom scratch. Kind of a pain in the but, but what can i say. At least the PC booted and have OS working.. I will probably install Linux aagin, but to my other PC...

Thank you all for your help. I learned a little more about how this programs work and what not to mess with....

Thank you for the news. I think you will find it a lot simpler the next time around. Good luck.

I will still install Linux to another box, because I really want to learn it and hopefully use it as a main box.. For gaming I still will endup using Windows..
