IBM PCMCIA Token-Ring adapter and 9.2 Pro - cannot resolve hostnames
Hello all.
I've had some "fun" with this installation onto my Compaq Evo N410c laptop. I've finally got the machine to build by disabling ACPI during the install process but could not do an upgrade from 9.0 and had to blow it all away and start with a "New Installation".
I've had no problems getting the inbuilt Ethernet to work (an Intel Pro 100) but I have to encounter several Token-Ring networks also and whereas my "IBM Token-Ring Auto16/4 Credit Card Adapter" worked fine with 9.0 (2.4.x kernel) , it does not with 9.2 (2.6.x kernel).
It does manage to pick up a DHCP-administered IP address and I can ping stuff on the local subnet, however, as soon as I try to ping anything outside of the immediate subnet, i.e. our DNS servers, it gives an "unknown host" error.
Likewise, trying to ping a hostname also bombs.
If I then try to traceroute to a hostname I get a "Temporarily unable to resolve hostname" error.
This is driving me nuts! There's no defects with the hardware -- I've two known-good sets of identical hardware that work fine under Windoze and, as previously stated, worked ok when running on 9.0 Pro.
Rgds, Rik.
