Unhappy How to restore the boot loader for SuSE 9.2 Pro. Please help

Hi all.

I use SuSE 9.2 Pro along with Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000. Recently I reinstalled Windows XP. After that whenever I boot my computer I log onto Windows and the boot loader for SuSE no longer appears. I do not want to reinstall SuSE from scratch. Please suggest me some ways of getting the boot loader back.

Thank you in advance.

WHen you re-installed WinXP, it over-wrote your Linux bootloader. It's quite easy to get back though. Boot your computer with the SuSE CD/DVD, and choose choose "installation" from the CD/DVD boot menu. As soon as the install starts, you get the option to "Boot Installed OS", where it finds your current SuSE install and loads it normally. From here, simply go into YaST2, select the "Bootloader" option and let it run through and re-install Grub. When you restart your machine without the CD/DVD, the SuSE boot menu is now back, and still giving you the option to boot into whatever version of Windows you wish.

Hi!

Ok, well, windows is very fussy about living with other operating systems. It likes to overright the MBR (where the bootloader lives) with a windows bootloader.
So, if you have a bootdisk (don't worry if you don't) then boot into SuSE and fix the bootloader.
If you don't have a boot disk, then you can try using a liveCD such as Knoppix to fix the bootloader- you would have to set up a generic one like GRUB.
Or, try booting into "rescue mode" using your SuSE CD's and fixing the bootloader from there.

hope this helps. Any questions, ask!
