If you have the standard GRUB of Ubuntu 10.4 than it is GRUB .
You wont to use Ubuntu Grub to load Opensuse so are going to install Opensuse GRUB on her root partition .
That is possible but you to tell tro installer of opensuse
After that in terminal of Ubuntu run the commant sudo su update-Grub

1) Create a partition for OpenSuse (if you don't already have one)
2) Install suse to that partition
3) When asked to install the bootloader, choose to install it to the / (root) partition, not the mbr
4) Reboot.
5) See if there is a choice in your grub boot menu. Grub may or may not automagically find the suse partition. If it does, your done. If it doesn't, boot to ubuntu and follow the instructions on this page to add it.

Good luck and post back if you hit a snag!

i tried using the live cd of opensuse opensuse suggested partioning methods is dangerous. it suggests to delete the ubuntu root partion. tells to create a home partion of 20gb which is the space reserved for opensuse while partiitoning the harddisk. My hardisk already has xp ubuntu. how can i safely install opensuse into my hdd. the custom partion would delete the mbr rendering the windows unbootable. Please suggest safe ways to partition and install opensuse

It's been a year-and-a-half or so since I installed openSuse, but most modern distros let you choose 'custom' or 'expert' install options that let you choose exactly what partition you want to install to. You'll need to use one of these options to avoid writing over any existing installs.

Please post the output of:
Code:
fdisk -l
so we can see how your disk is currently partitioned.
