Hi -

[ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions 1.0] is a set of technologies to add AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript And XML) support to ASP.NET. It consists of a client-side script
...
Supported Operating Systems:
* Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows XP

Required Software:
* Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0
Remember - Ajax is primarily a *client side* technology. You can do just about anything you want with any of the following technologies:

* Raw Javascript in your HTML output (or HTML output from PHP, JSP or any number of other "open" server side technologies)

* A Javascript library like Dojo or jQuery

* A higher-level language like CoffeeScript

If you *must* do ASP.Net on the server side, you have alternatives like mod_mono

Even on the Microsoft side, technologies like .Net web forms, or Silverlight, are *light years* ahead of something like the .Net Ajax Extensions plug-ins.

The procedure is obviously "set up Mono, then install AJAX Extensions in Mono." But I second the inquiry of why?
