GUI disappeared? Terminal left

I have currently lost my GUI (KDE) again and I am not really into re installing my whole system again. If I boot my computer I get a visual screen which allows me to choose where to boot from. My windows boot still works properly however my linux boot fails, for a to me unknown reason, to initialize the GUI. I do get a terminal with in the top left corner the suse logo and on the back a print which looks like a fingerprint indicating to me that the problem is probably a setting somewhere. Can anyone help me getting my GUI back and function properly again as this is not the first time I have encountered this problem. I am using SuSe10.2 on this system and I am running it with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro graphics card. The drivers for this card are installed on my system

Frank

Than try to start X with startx command, and if it fails give there a /var/log/X.0.log file, and all of error messages you'll have.

It did not work, I will try to put the file on here asap (tomorrow) does anyone else have a suggestion in the mean time? It could save me a lot of work.

Thank you,
An almost desperate saf4

Did you install the ATI drivers from ATI or as an RPM? If so that "might" be the culprit. Did you use THIS howto to install? If not you may want to run, logged in as root:
Code:
# ldconfig
# aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
# sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx
BTW, the # symbol just means the root prompt, don't type it in.

HTH,

Whilst searching through that site I found another site which had the needed info.

# xorgconfig
I saved xorg.conf to /etc/X11 (the file was missing)
then
# ldconfig
# aticonfig --initial input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
#sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx

Thanks to all of you
