Question dns look up


i am use x64 bit SuSE linux 9.2 and can not get the firewall to alow dns lookups can some please advise

we are runing an ISP useing SuSE 9.2 and qmail we are wanting to regitar domain on our sever but have the problem that when we put the firewall up we can resove dns but it dose work when the firewall is down
