configuring a compaq IJ300 using ppd files

does anyone know how to get the printer database in YaST to update to include a downloaded .ppd file?

I've been trying to get my Compaq IJ300 to wiruk under 9.1 Personl, using a PPd file recommended as one that works. But when I go through YaST and use the 'add a PPD file from a hard disk' it scomes up saying '1 file was added' but then I can't pick it from the list!!!

I;ve looked under Compaq, Lexmark and Unkown and can;t find the PPD file I've loaded onto the database!!!!

I'm replying to a post from 2004! Not because I have the answer, but because I still have the question: How to get a Compaq IJ300 to work in openSuse 10.3...

If anyone out there is interested in using a low-end 1998-model printer, I finally made my Compaq IJ300 work on openSuse 10.3! Well, only in black & white. Color has "issues"; don't know if it can be straightened out or not... But still--Yay, me!

Well, anyway, if the particular steps are of interest to anybody, post here and I'll try to recreate.
