Question checking the installation status of a library


i am new with linux enviroment . This may be a very trivial question for u guys but any please let me know that,

how to make sure you have sigc++ or any other library is installed in my system? i mean to say where we can find the installed libraries? what is the procedure?

There are several options.

1. Check with YaST-> Software Managment
2. Check with rpm, e.g. rpm -qa | grep sigc. Once you know the exact name of the package (10.1: libsigc++12), you can list the file locations with rpm -ql libsigc++12.
3. Search with find or locate (locate is quicker, but a database needs to be created and updated)
