What error do you get?

Is it listening on port 3306?

Do you have any firewall rules in place?

Is your user account set up correctly?

When you set up your user account on mysql you'll need to specify your hostname/ip address or "%" wildcard as the hostname.

I'm not sure what the GUI does, what happens when you just run a grant statement?

What error do you get?
