Question Audio Streaming Selection Suse 11.1

Greetings -

I listen to streaming audio and when I click on the winamp icon I get a window that asks me what I wish to do. I generally download the .pls file and play it in either XMMS or Realplayer.

I am not getting that pop up window, instead the software selects for me which is *NOT* the player I want (attached photo)

I'm quite new to Suse, and I don't know the name of the app or its location to make the appropriate changes. I'm sure this is a simple fix,
can someone steer me in the right direction?

Adriann

I got it to play on my system. I went to http://smoothjazz.com/streams and that gave me a menu of choices. I clicked the stream and got a pop up. I selected download. That loaded the .pls file in my downloads directory. From there I clicked the .pls file, and picked the player I wanted to use. Its playing now. I had forgotten about Smoothjazz, I like it a lot...

Re: Audio Streaming

Hi Cliff, nice to meet you

Look at the attached photo #2. That is what I got when I followed your link. I.E. - no change.

Secondly, look at the attached photo (SmoothJazz.com). All you should have to do is go to their store front and click on the player of your choice; for argument, I will say WinAmp (XMMS).I should get the pop up selection window like you do, instead I get whats in photo #2.

How do I make the change to the section window???

From the first page, www.smoothjazz.com, if I click on Winamp icon, FF opens a new page and it connects to www.winamp.com. I do not get music there.

If I click on the Listen Now button, I get a pop up, and get connected through FF , not sure what plugin it is using, but it is not playing through any player on my system.

To get it to play through a player on my system, I had to go to the streams page, click on the top button For MAC + PC, I got a pop up, I selected download. That downloaded a .pls file. I opened that file with Totem Movie Player 2.30.2 and it plays the stream in the .pls file. I did try Audacious, the music player I use the most, but it will not play the stream.

I do have the mplayerplug-in 3.55 installed in firefox. It supports .mp3 streams, that is my best guess as to the plugin that is playing the Smoothjazz stream.

I do not have WinAmp installed. I used it a long time ago, but not recently. I stopped using Xmms, since the development for Xmms seems to be gone.

I hope this gives you some options, and you get the stream playing.

Cool

This took me about 30 secs with Amarok running on openSuse 11.1 & KDE 3.5.10.

I did a right click on the left most 128k MP3 icon below the Listen Now button, then selected Copy Link Location. Open Amarok, click the PL button to open the Playlist tools, and select Playlists from the right side tabs. Right click on Radio Sations and select Add Radio Station. Paste into the URL box, and type Cool Jazz in the Name box. Hit enter, and it will go in the Radio Stations list. Double click the new entry and your away. Take about 5 times as long to type as it does to do!

I use Amarok for all my music on Suse/KDE. My laptop and Acer netbook run Ubuntu 10.04 & Gnome so I use RythmBox instead. I can't decide which I prefer, though I like the way you can set Amarok to do a nice fade when you hit stop!.

Happy listening.
