just tried with suse 10 GM (not OSS version) and work perfectly......
it just very simple to do just make sure you have already this packages installed: make, GCC (include: gcc-c++), kernel source.
then go to the "konsole" type "su" and enter your/root password then run the ATI driver installer example "sh ati-driver-installer-8.18.8-i386.run" then after installation finish (still in konsole) type "fglrxconfig" don't change to much except for keyboard,mouse,and monitor resolution (that's work for me ) .......that's it then exit from konsole and restart.
after back to your suse try to check/test your ATI with this command on konsole : "glxinfo" or "glxgears" or "fgl_glxgears"
the glxinfo must say it has "direct rendering:yes"
the glxgears show a great FPS---> depend on your video card
the fgl_glxgears also same with glxgears, it depend on your video card type.

and after running the SaX2 line in step 9, get and eror and a message to check /var/log/SaX.log - the output of which is below but the error message is "Fatal server error:
no screens found"
/var/log/sax.log - NOTE I HAVE REMOVED UNECESSARY INFO FROM THIS .LOG TO SAVE SPACE

the Howto says just to run step 9 again until it works, but I've tried this 5 times and get the same error. BTW the output of ~>fglrxinfo is as follows:

It looks in my log file that I posted earlier that this is where it is trying to load the build fglrx module, but there's a Xorg mismatch? Not something I've seen posted elsewhere, but this could be the problem .
