Atheros WiFi


Dear All...

I just purchase ACER Aspire 4220 AMD Simpron. i install Suse 10.2 and it's detect the WiFi as Atheros AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter, but under the laptop body is written Athereos AR 5BXB63.

now the WiFi doesn't work, is there any driver for that.

please help

OpenSuSE 10.2 is old. You might get better results, since this is a new installation, to install 11.0. More hardware is supported, and your card may work right off the bat.

You say the card is detected, have you tried to set it up and get an address? Have you tried to configure the WEP/WPA keys, and tried to get it going? What messages do you get when you attempt to make a connection?

Read my thread in Networking regarding Atheros, not the same card, but the info might help (and it is OpenSuse 11.0).
Also just to help me out, could you as root in a console type:
lsmod | grep ath
