apt error, lock?


I installed apt on my suse 9.1 box and at first i was able to use it orrectly, but now when i try to run

apt-get install synaptic


i get this error


error: cannot get exclusive lock on /var/lib/rpm/Packages
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Operation not permitted (1)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm
E: could not open RPM database


I get taht for all the things i try to install,
and also can anyone tell me how i can get apt to install firefox?
thanks for any help.

you must be root to do "apt-get install". i think if you open "yast2-install and remove software" option it will lock the /var/lib/rpm/packages database.

and to install firefox, install from synatic then go to productivity/networking/web/browsers.

make sure you the correct repositories added then do apt-get update.
