ACPI problem

I just installed SuSE 9.3 on my laptop and it would freeze during kernel loading.

After one night's playing with kernel I found that once I deactivate ACPI by adding "acpi=off" in the boot loader kernel, I was able to get the GUI logon interface and boot normally. However, the wireless for some reason doesn't work anymore (and it can't be turned on either). And if I enable ACPI, it would freeze again at kde loading but the wireless is working (light is on). If anyone can let me know how to enable wireless with ACPI disabled or resolve the freezing problem it would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my laptop (HP nc6120).
Slackware 10.0 installed and compiled 2.6.11.11 kernel with acpi support.
Once I boot using the new kernel, I can work a short while, but then the laptop freezes and I have to turn it of and back on.

I posted here for some help, and a friedly soul told me to listen if the cpu-fan kicked in as it should. (Maybe disable ACPI fan control)

I've been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to test any of it.
Default 2.4.26 kernel works OK, so I use that for now.

You could try and compile the latest kernel 2.6.11.12, activate acpi, but disable acpi fan-control.
(Kernel compilation is actually not as hard as you would think..)
Just a suggestion..
