Why can't OpenSuse have normal sized fonts like Ubuntu and not microscopic ones?

I like OpenSuse's graphical environment, heck even its console like text during bootup looks very classy unlike any other popular Linux distribution. But one thing which always rankles me is its teeny-weeny fonts out of the box.

I have tried it 3 times since 2004 and I find that even today it retains those microscopic fonts. Its competitors like Ubuntu, Fedora etc. have appropriately sized fonts. Why can't Suse too have them like that right out of the box?

Your screen resolution is higher than normal. In my case (Ubuntu and OpenSuse 11.1) Ubuntu came out of the box with regular 1024x768 resolution. OpenSuse came with 11somethingsomethingx9something. Higher than normal, so the fonts are smaller.

To get any more detail, you will have to say which GUI (Gnome, KDE (which one), XFCE, Enlightenment (which one) you are using and probably something about your monitor.

I have SuSE and don't have this problem, so otherwise my answer might just be 'this doesn't happen for me'.

I find that adjusting DPI usually fixes font sizes for me when they're small. I use a DPI of 100 set in my xorg.conf (nvidia driver). With some distros I need to also set DPI in ~/.font.conf (Gnome). Currently on openSuse 11.1 with KDE4.2, my KDE fonts are normal and my fonts in GTK apps are a bit small... I just configure them larger (ie, in firefox and gvim).
