Hello, I am running Suse 10 using KDE 2.4. I downloaded the Opera browser and it does not start when I click on it. It just gives me the cursor jumping up and down then goes away after a few seconds.
I have installed it through Yast, removed it, installed it through the RPM using KPackage and it does the same thing...doesn't start. I have done this process at least 6 times. I've even installed it through the tarball.
I've researched this issue extensively but still haven't found any remedy. I did check the Opera site but it gives me only 2 suggestions. One is to download the static version, (which I did) and removing it and installing it again. (Which I've done many times.)I've also made sure I had all the correct dependencies and they are all fine as well.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
Thank you very much in advance for any assistance you can provide.
You probably mean KDE 3.4 -- we all do typos. I have the same problem and have been unable to run Opera on 10.0 running on an x86_64 system. Sometimes it helps just to know its probably not the pilot. You may have better luck running Firefox and Thunderbird which will give you roughly equivalent capabilities. That's what I did -- more than one way to skin a cat.

Have you also tried deleting ~/.opera? This did the trick for me. I also remember reading somewhere that some plugin(s) can cause Opera to behave like this.
I finally figured out what the problem was and wanted to post this in case someone else has the same issue currently or in the future.
I had to remove the "vic-mozillaplugin." After that it worked immediately. I was using Konsole and typing in "opera" (without the quotes of course) and I'd get "Segmentation Fault." Strange how a plugin for a different browser (Mozilla) would cause a separate browser not to work. Anyway, that is how to resolve it.
Thank you for taking the time to assist me in this issue.

i am having the same problem on my fedora 4
i click opera, nothing, i commandline opera, and i get the segmentation fault
if i reboot, it may come up. What made you think it was the vlc-mozilla, I just installed it a few days ago. But it was acting like that before i installed it.
