Is my system decent for SUSE??

I already have it installed but some stuff load slow..

I have a:

Pentium III 1.0 Ghz

Mother Board: Compaq Presario (Chipset: Whitney )
RAM: 384MB SDRAM
Intel 82810e GFX controller (32MB)

40GB drive, but is partitioned C and SUSE was installed on D wich he resized and installed on some other drive.

also i have a question:

SUSE takes almost 1min to load to logon screen..
can i make it faster??

also any way to cover that black screen with commands when SUSE is loading???(like so i dont see that screen)
you know the scrolling messages

blah blah - done

your specs are fine... what window manager or desktop environment are you using??

which part of the bootup process is taking so long??

yes, you can make a graphical boot instead of those text messages:

http://bootsplash.org/

also, refering to the slow performance, let's see what your hard drive's performance is... perform this command (as root) and post the output:

Code:
hdparm -tT /dev/hdx
replace the "x" with your actual drive...

do the test three times, so we can get an "average" feel, and remember to not be doing anything else when you run the test...

good luck...

make sure ur not starting un-necessary service's ... this will impact the boot time...

the message's are vital... for u to find out whether ur system started properly...

I dunno why u wanna turn them of...

As well as using hdparm, there is a SuSE configuration program for setting a different DMA mode on your drive. It probably just calls the hdparm program.

Here you go:

linux:~ # hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 396 MB in 2.00 seconds = 197.73 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 70 MB in 3.08 seconds = 22.75 MB/sec
linux:~ # hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 388 MB in 2.01 seconds = 192.87 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 68 MB in 3.03 seconds = 22.45 MB/sec
linux:~ # hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 396 MB in 2.01 seconds = 197.34 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 68 MB in 3.00 seconds = 22.64 MB/sec
linux:~ # hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 388 MB in 2.02 seconds = 192.49 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 68 MB in 3.00 seconds = 22.64 MB/sec
linux:~ #
