display manager "£$!!"£"!£!"$£%£%^"!

Hi i have just installed suse 9.3 .. I was using kde 3.4 when i have decided to check the gnome... so i have just ended the current session and i have selected from the green screen the gnome.. The gnome has loaded fine and after a while i have pressed the restart button... after this step suse9.3 has booted perfectly... The problem is that i cant see the nice defalu login manager (green color) but i can see a gray one that seems like a screen of commodore 64 or sth like that... I dont know what to do but i need to move back to my old nice log in screen... Any idea plz ?

The same thing happened to me, but it was like the next day after I installed it so I just did a fresh install again because I couldn't fix it, BUT I have seen this problem posted here in these boards and there was a solution found, it's just a matter of finding that thread.

It sounds like you are trying to login through XDM instead of KDM. This is a known problem with SuSE 9.3. Here is SuSE's solution:

Commandline (su to root): kedit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager
Find DISPLAYMANAGER and change "xdm" or whatever is listed to "kdm".

If you don't use kedit just use your favorite text editor.

BTW. Don't forget to run YOU because there is a patch to resolve the problem permanently or so I understand it that way. I had the same problem after install.
