Asterisk random shutdowns, how to keep going?

We're using Asterisk (the 10.2 bundled version) internally here and have encountered a weird problem. Sometimes it just "quits running", no error logged, no shutdown logged, just suddenly is no longer running. It'll go weeks without doing it, then do it several times in a day.

Interested in any ideas on what might be causing it, and any temporary workarounds (such as a good method of detecting when it crashes so that it can auto-restart (like the Solaris svcadm facility provides)).

Thanks,
Brian

Not sure of the root cause, but monit would be a workaround.

It's an interesting problem... So far I've got it narrowed down to when we receive faxes, but other than that I don't know what's going on yet...
