Random shutdowns when ATI Drivers installed.

Hello all,

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 on a Toshiba Satellite a100 and am having a really strange problem with my ATI X1600 card. When the ATI drivers are installed and 3D acceleration is enabled my laptop will shut down with no warning after about 5-10 mins. I don't think it's an overheating problem as the fan doesn't switch to the highest setting and it happens even when I leave the computer untouched.

I was having a similar problem in Windows XP when playing any games that use 3D acceleration so I'm worried that there might be something physically wrong with the card. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thank you.

Ned.

I'm current using the vesa driver which works, it's when I try and install the ati driver that the system starts shutting down.
