Wine not working

I have downloaded wine from :

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=6241&package_id=77449

After that followed this instructions , gmake worked successfully , but wine didn't work !!!

Anyway , I have tried 'make depend' , 'make' , 'make install' one by one.

Now , When I tried to execute an exe file I got the result :

Quote:
wine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 0x00000000 at address 0 (thread 0010), starting debugger...
couldn't load main module (2)
Unhandled exception: page fault on execute access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x00000000).

Your profile says you are running Fedora. What is wrong with "yum install wine"?

I read from Wine's faq that running wine as root (or with sudo) will gives Windows viruses full access to the computer.
When I try "yum install wine", it prompt me to input root's pwd!

I'm bit confused. Am I safe to do the installation by "yum install wine"?

I installed Linux on my 2nd PC for learning purpose but seldom touch it ^_^!! Pls excuse for my unwise question.

When you install wine you need to be root. When you run wine you need to NOT be root. Only root can install software system wide. That doesn't mean he is the only one who can run it, or that he should run it.
