Using Solaris Studio to compile GCC

I've been trying to install GCC on OpenSolaris 2009-06 but haven't been able to find any packages for it (I can't just do a package install as the repo at pkg.opensolaris.org isn't active anymore). I've downloaded the tar install for Solaris Studio 12.2, expanded it and have done:
export CC=/opt/SolarisStudio12.2-solaris-x86-tar-ML/solstudio12.2/bin/CC
then I untarred the GCC source and did a ./configure which went OK but the make failed with:

Make: Fatal error: Command failed for target 'configure-gcc'

Can anyone suggest anything? I'm not very familiar with Solaris and just want to get GCC installed.

sunfreeware.com has GCC packages.

or: pkg install gcc-dev
?

"Make: Fatal error: Command failed for target 'configure-gcc'" tells us nothing - we'd need the previous few lines, if not the previous dozen lines.

That was the first thing I tried but I didn't get very far, see http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...olaris-907789/

Anyway, this was output just before the make error, I don't know how useful it is.

Quote:
/bin/sh ${libsrcdir}/configure \
--cache-file=./config.cache --build=i386-pc-solaris2.11 --host=i386-pc-solaris2.11 --target=i386-pc-solaris2.11 --with-gcc-version-trigger=/export/home/admin/gcc-3.4.6/gcc/version.c --program-transform-name='s,y,y,' ${srcdiroption} \ || exit 1

knudfl, I'm trying to find a prebuilt package (like a .deb or .rpm) in the other thread. here I'm looking at compiling it from source as plan B. Although I now have a C++ compiler installed (the Sun one) I really need GCC and was hoping I could use Solaris Studio to build it but as you can see above I've run into a problem.
