Unhappy Scratch Disk Full Solaris 10. Cant Delete or Move Files

Hi,

I'm fairly new to this. I have had this similar problem before where a particular "scratch" disk becomes full. (Due to user Account Lazyness of archiving.) However the other times that this has occured I have been able to move files to another disk to make enough space to allow the disk to operate and hence delete other files to make space.

This time however I cannot delete OR move files on this disk.

mv: cannot unlink display_file-2.dsl: Disc quota exceeded

Does anybody know any other solutions?? I just need to move or delete some files..

You have exceeded your user disk quota. The disk may not be full. You could ask the root user to relax your quota until you get some space freed up and then put the quota back in place.

i am administrator.. :-)

Hi Steve,

I am actually the administrator :-( (prematurely i know, considering my experience, but i do the best i can.) and i monitor 15 LDAP records on this server... each who have a folder on this drive. Before I began, the old administrator had put a limit of 150GB to be used on this disk... so you have reminded me, that it is not necessarily the disk that is full but that the limit is exceeded.

My problem now is, i was in as root while trying to delete and move and this still wouldnt work.. so. Any idea how to relax this quota temporarily?? So i can delete data. I will also do some google searches!

I tell these people about every2 weeks to clean out their areas. Im frustrated..

Thanks again for ticking my memory though and for your help.

According to this page you can apply and remove quotas by changing /etc/fstab and then remounting the partition. I have never tried it. It may work the same way on Solaris.

You can disable a quota by using the command "quotaoff <filesytem_mount_point>"
