Recommended Solaris Video Card

Can anybody recommend some good video cards that are well supported by Solaris 10.

Are there any video cards that support 3d excelleration direct from xorg - without needing to install ati or nvidia drivers.

I have a Radeon 9250 18Mb card. Is there any way to install the fglrx kernel module in solaris?

Should I ditch the ATI and buy an Nvidia - if so, which one?

Thanks.

Nvidia just released a driver supporting 3D acceleration.
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
and precisely:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/solaris..._1.0-7664.html
The driver is for Quadro high end cards, but should work with any nVidia by mapping the driver to the installed device:

# prtconf -pv | grep -i display
... pci10de,xxxx ...
# update_drv -a -i '"pci10de,xxxx"' nvidia

I ended up buying an Nvidia GeFroce FX5500 today.

I tried your suggestions but I had the following message failure in my Xorg.0.log

"Failed to initilize the NVIDIA kernel module. Please ensure that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system and NVIDIA device files have been created properly. **ABORTING**".

I also worked through the suggestions in this post:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=51439

But I am still struggling.

Any ideas on where to go from here? Should I just buy a Quadpro?

All solved ....

you need the nvidia at the end of the command ...

update_drv -a -i '"pcixxxx,xxx"' nvidia

This was missed from the original sticky on the nv forum.

Thanks for reporting, but the correct update_drv syntax was on my very first reply up there ...

Yes .. thanks jiliagre. I appreciated your response.

When I said 'you' I meant it generically following the link that I posted to the other nv forum topic (not yourself jiliagre).

The only difference to your advice jiliagre was that I dropped to the 0 ... ie "pci10de,326" not "pci10de,0326".
