Angry Network won`t work on Solaris 9 x86 with RTL8139

Hi,

I'm trying to install Solaris 9 on a x86.
Besides dozens and dozens other problems I can't setup my network. 8-(

NIC is a Realtek RTL8139 with driver from www.realtek.com.tw.

After solving an IRQ-Conflict (?) now the NIC has an IRQ for itself and sends at least "arp who-has 192.168.10.6 (Broadcast) tell datensarg". "datensarg" is the name of the Solaris-machine in question, IP is 192.168.10.2.
I did observe this with "tcpdump" on datensarg.
The breadcasts reach all machines in the local network, also observed whith "tcpdump" on a different machine (192.168.10.4 a Slackwarebox).

But that's all.

The "arp"-table on 192.168.10.4 lists only an *incomplete* entry for "datensarg".
Solaris does also not respond to pings from 192.168.10.4.

NIC and cables are working with Slackware, Suse, W2k and W98. It is therefore a softwareproblem. ;-)

I would be happy about *any* suggestions, because this is the first time I do Solaris.

Desperatly yours

Lightbulb Solved! BIOS: APIC set to PIC

Hi,

problem was solved not very fast, nor elegant and not at all easyly, but solved!

The whole problem was solved after hours and hours of further newsnet reading.

The BIOS settings simply where against me. 8-(

After setting APIC to PIC (the last option in the last page of the BIOS) everything was well!

This is written from Solaris 9 on x86, at last!

Happy Hollydays
