net-snmp on Solaris 10

Hi..

This is my first post here..

I installed Solaris 10 recently on a SPARC ..

Now we want to monitor it using Cacti just like all other servers (Windows servers), I downloaded a template that works with net-snmp not with snmp daemon that comes with solaris...
I tried for past few days to make net-snmp worj and stop sun snmp daemon but with no luck..

I started by downloading net-snmp from sunfreeware and it is pre-request packages like gcc or Libgcc and Openssl..All are from sunfreeware
Now I have all packages ready as following:
1- gcc-3.4.6-sol10-sparc-local.gz
2- net-snmp-5.4.2.1-sol10-sparc-local.gz
3- openssl-0.9.8j-sol10-sparc-local.gz

I transferred all files to sun server using ftp (binary)..
Then I used gunzip on the server, I was expecting to have a folder after “gunzip”ing the .gz file but I got a file!! (I suspect something is wrong here)

I used "pkgadd -d filname" to install files... even it is not a .pkg..

After that..I’m totally confused..each source tells different procedures..

Bottom line.. I want someone help me and tell me and all newbie like me how to install net-snmp on solaris 10 with stopping it is snmp daemon.. So this will be like a concrete source for installing net-snmp on Solaris 10

P.S.: updatedb, locate, whereis are not working (I'm the root user)

Thanks in advance,
Alans

You can compile it from source, check the link below it clearly explains how to build and configure net-snmp on solaris. If you insist on installing from packages go to the directory and after unzipping do "pkgadd -d . gcc-3.4.6-sol10-sparc-local".
