Creating a ZFS pool using two StorEdge arrays

Hi there,

I have a Sol 10 box with two 10TB StorEdge (2540) arrays. One is full and the other is brand new. Eventually, I want to create one large 20TB array using ZFS.

The problem is that the old array is still being used and I need to start setting up the new array for other users. My plan was to set up a new ZFS pool using a single disk (whatever LUN shows up as in /dev/dsk) and then add the other LUN at a later date.

My questions are:

1] Can I create a ZFS pool using a single disk (LUN)?
2] Once I add the other array to the pool, will I lose all my data?
3] Can I just create one big 20TB pool without striping or redundancy?

If you can suggest better ways to do this, your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes.

You won't loose data already present on the existing pool, if this is what you are asking.

You can create a pool that just distributes data on all devices. There will be redundancy on metadata as ZFS always does that. There won't be redundancy on data itself and this is obviously not a good practice.
